[MARKET BIAS: BULLISH] [SESSION: PREMARKET] [CATALYST: EARNINGS] Amazon.com Inc. ($NASDAQ:AMZN) stock is poised for gains in premarket trading following an upbeat second-quarter earnings report. Net sales climbed 20% to $200.6 billion, exceeding the $196.47 billion consensus. Amazon Web Services (AWS) was a significant driver, with revenue up 37% to $42.2 billion, marking its fastest growth in 18 quarters, and segment operating income rose 64% to $16.6 billion. Advertising revenue also contributed, up 26% to $19.8 billion.
CEO Andy Jassy signaled an increase in full-year capital expenditure to $220 billion, up from $200 billion, citing higher memory costs. Jassy indicated that despite this planned investment, Amazon anticipates insufficient capacity to meet 2026 demand. This strategic push comes as the company's trailing twelve-month free cash flow shifted to a $7.6 billion outflow from an $18.2 billion inflow in the prior year, with long-term debt nearly doubling to $128.9 billion since December. The AWS backlog of contracted but undelivered work reached $496 billion.
For the third quarter, Amazon projects revenue between $197 billion and $202 billion, a range that falls below the $204.1 billion consensus, attributed partly to a shift in Prime Day timing into June. Operating income is expected to range from $22.5 billion to $26.5 billion.
**Implied Volatility / Movement:** $AMZN+WL rose 12.23% premarket. The stock is up $8.85 on July 31, 2026.
