Ampera has entered into a strategic partnership with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory, to develop advanced nuclear fuel. The initiative focuses on scalable, cost-effective manufacturing of Tri-Structural Isotropic (TRISO) fuel for advanced nuclear energy systems, including compact reactors. This collaboration is intended to bolster Ampera's strategy for a secure domestic advanced nuclear fuel supply chain by leveraging joint expertise in fuel development and optimization.

The partnership will assess and refine liquid-metal-jetting technology to produce uniform thorium-232 kernels for TRISO fuel. The project will involve computational modeling, materials testing, high-temperature process development, and characterization of particles. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory research engineer Viktor Sukhotskiy noted the collaboration allows for the application of joint expertise to nuclear fuel challenges and the maturation of liquid metal jetting as an advanced manufacturing technology.

Ampera's proprietary processes are protected by a significant intellectual property portfolio, including numerous patents on its liquid-metal-jetting technology and advanced TRISO fuel manufacturing. The company previously announced its strategy in June to support a secure thorium fuel supply chain and enhance future advanced fuel production capabilities.

advanced nuclear energy

A company called Ampera is teaming up with a government science lab to make better fuel for advanced nuclear reactors. Investors care because reliable, homegrown nuclear fuel could unlock cleaner and more secure energy sources in the future.

What changed

Ampera announced a strategic partnership with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to develop scalable advanced nuclear fuel.

Who wins / who loses

Nuclear technology developers and domestic supply chain advocates benefit, while traditional fossil fuel providers face long-term competitive pressure.

Think in terms of the next few months.

Confidence & best fit

low confidence · Long-term investor

Low confidence → prefer ETFs and “Watch,” not rushing into one stock.

Quick glossary: Watch = track, don’t buy yet · Build slowly = only if it fits your plan · Protect = reduce risk · ETF = a basket of stocks (often safer than one company)
Safer theme exposure (ETFs)

Baskets that own the theme without betting on one company.

  • $NLR A basket of nuclear energy stocks that lets you invest in the whole atomic power industry rather than guessing on one small company.
  • $URA An exchange-traded fund focused on uranium and nuclear supplies, offering a safer way to play the nuclear fuel theme.
Options (education only)

No strikes or expiries — a framework for how traders might express the view. Options can expire worthless.

Skip options here since the primary company is not publicly traded; stick to buying broad sector ETFs if you want to follow the nuclear theme.
