CordenPharma is undertaking a substantial capital expenditure program to enhance its sterile injectable manufacturing capabilities. The company has committed €80 million to a multi-year investment at its Caponago, Italy site, aiming to increase its aseptic fill-finish capacity to 500 million sterile injectable units per year.

This expansion includes the acquisition of an adjacent 11,000 m² commercial building and 26,000 m² of land, which increases the site's overall footprint by over 50%. The new facility is designed to accommodate a minimum of four aseptic fill & finish lines, four visual inspection lines, and four packaging lines, supporting various injectable formats such as pre-filled syringes, vials, and cartridges. The company also plans to integrate aseptic fill & finish operations with existing LNP manufacturing capabilities on the same campus.

Additionally, CordenPharma has implemented strategic expansions within its operational area, adding two new aseptic fill & finish isolator lines over the past two years. These include a clinical and small-scale commercial combo line and a high-speed pre-filled syringe and cartridge line. The expansion of analytical capabilities and the automatic secondary packaging area are also part of this initiative, with the integration of new isolator lines targeted for mid-2027 and 2028.

What changed

CordenPharma committed 80 million euros to expand its sterile injectable fill-finish capacity and facility footprint in Italy.

Who wins / who loses
