The first set of requirements from the European Union's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is now in effect as of August 12, 2026. Duni Group, a player in the European packaging market, has indicated preparedness for the regulation's phased introduction, which is designed to decrease packaging waste and environmental harm. The PPWR mandates changes across the entire packaging lifecycle, including product design and waste management.
Key stipulations of the PPWR, which officially entered into force on February 11, 2025, will apply gradually, with not all mandates taking effect simultaneously. Stricter restrictions on PFAS in food contact packaging are among the initial changes. Duni Group announced it had phased out added PFAS in 2023 and has been developing products aligned with the new standards.
Furthermore, the regulation redefines producer responsibility, shifting it more directly to brand owners or entities placing products on the market under their own name, rather than solely the packagers. Duni Group highlighted its investment in Relevo by Duni, a digital platform focused on reusable packaging solutions, as part of its adaptation to the evolving regulatory landscape.
