Yemen's Houthi rebels announced on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, that they conducted air strikes targeting a government complex in the Khadir district of Taiz governorate, resulting in injuries. The rebel military spokesman, Yahya Saree, asserted that F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets, launched from Saudi airbases, were utilized. This action was framed as retaliation for Saudi air raids across Yemen, with the Houthis claiming approximately 300 such raids in the preceding five days.
The Saudi-led coalition responded by promising a resolute stance. Major General Turki al-Maliki, a coalition spokesperson, stated, "The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition will deal with these attacks responsibly and firmly to protect the sovereignty of the kingdom." Saudi Arabia has not issued a public statement on the Houthi claims, and the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
This latest exchange of aerial attacks follows recent Houthi ground advances in western Yemen, where the group reportedly gained control of significant portions of the Red Sea coast. The ongoing conflict and regional tensions threaten vital shipping lanes, including the Bab al-Mandeb strait, a crucial artery for energy and commercial transport.
