Two oil supertankers sustained damage from unidentified projectiles while navigating the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy supply. Maritime risk management firm Marisks confirmed the incidents occurred Tuesday, as tensions in the Middle East escalated, prompting concerns over the stability of oil shipments. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) also reported an incident late Monday, with a tanker struck by three projectiles during an outbound transit. No casualties or environmental impact have been reported thus far.

In a separate but related development, Iran stated Monday that a supertanker caught fire after hitting two naval mines in the southern Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed the vessel was attempting an illegal transit. These events coincide with an exchange of fire between the U.S. and Iran, the first in over a month.

The escalating situation in the region has impacted oil markets, with Brent crude prices rising for a second consecutive day. Brent approached $92 a barrel in Asian trading on Tuesday, reflecting market apprehension regarding the potential disruption to tentative oil flow recoveries from the Middle East.
