Hong Kong share sales reached a record $47.5 billion during the third quarter, driven by Chinese technology companies seeking capital for artificial intelligence expansion, according to Bloomberg data.
The fundraising surge during the July-to-September period lifted the city's total for 2026 above $92 billion. That trajectory places the market within striking distance of the $112.5 billion annual record established in 2021.
Transactions spanned major follow-on offerings and listings. Alibaba Group executed the quarter's largest deal with a $10.2 billion follow-on offering. Zhongji Innolight secured nearly $8 billion in Hong Kong's largest listing in almost seven years. AI developer Z.AI raised $9.6 billion through the year via initial public offerings, placements, and convertible bonds, alongside fundraising from MiniMax, Shanghai Iluvatar CoreX Semiconductor, and Shanghai Biren Technology.
Broader Asia-Pacific share sales surpassed $120 billion for the quarter, marking a six-year high for the period. India contributed $26 billion in fundraising since July, supported by domestic liquidity.
Despite the primary issuance volume, market selectivity intensified as the MSCI Asia-Pacific Index fell as much as 7% in July amid scrutiny over artificial intelligence returns. Higher bond yields and expectations for additional Federal Reserve rate increases have contributed to tighter financial conditions across the region.
