The U.S. options market is trending towards a seventh straight year of record activity, a sustained surge driven by robust trading volumes. Exchange operators Cboe Global Markets and Nasdaq are positioned to capitalize on this trend, with both reporting significant revenue growth tied to the increased demand for derivatives and trading services.

Cboe Global Markets reported a record second quarter ending June 30, with net revenue climbing 25% year-over-year to $732 million. Adjusted diluted earnings per share saw a substantial increase of 45%, reaching $3.60. This performance was largely fueled by its derivatives business, which posted a 30% rise in net revenue to $413 million, as average daily volume of index options increased 32% to 6.2 million contracts.

Nasdaq also contributed to the momentum, reporting $1.5 billion in net revenue for the same period, a 15% year-over-year increase. Its market services division saw an 11% rise in net revenue, underscoring the broad-based strength in U.S. equity options volumes. The exchange operator's premium services have also seen positive traction, with exchange-traded product assets under management crossing $1 trillion.
