immigration policy tech labor costs
The government wants to charge companies over $100,000 for every foreign worker they bring in on an H-1B visa. Investors care because this massive new cost will eat into the profits of tech companies that hire a lot of international engineers.
What changed
A new proposal to formalize a steep $103,265 H-1B visa fee was published in the US Federal Register.
Who wins / who loses
Domestic consulting firms and remote-work tech providers may benefit, while heavy tech recruiters and outsourcing firms face higher expenses.

Not a trade tip — ways to use the insight outside the market.
- Focus on domestic recruiting and workforce training providers that stand to gain if companies shift hiring locally.
What would break this thesis
- Permanent court blocks halting the $100,000 fee rule
- Significant softening of the proposed fee during the public comment period
