AI is rapidly emerging as a critical influencer in consumer decision-making, with expectations for trust to grow by 15 percentage points by 2030. New research from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) indicates that 31% of consumers currently utilize AI at some point in their purchase journey, a threefold increase over the past 18 months. Among these users, 19% are considered AI loyalists who regularly depend on its recommendations, and a substantial 70% of them proceed to purchase products suggested by AI.
The increasing integration of AI into consumer choices presents a new dynamic for brands, as the technology often introduces consumers to new brands they might not have otherwise discovered. This mediation by AI means brands may have less insight into how they are being recommended or excluded in the consumer's path to purchase.
Beyond AI, other structural themes are influencing consumer demand. Over two-thirds of consumers prioritize value over price, and nearly three-quarters view health and well-being as the primary indicator of prosperity, surpassing career prospects (40%) and financial wealth (28%).
