U.S. forces launched strikes against five Iranian oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman and near Kharg Island, the U.S. Central Command stated. This action followed accusations that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had targeted a U.S. warship twice in the preceding days.

Iran responded by launching missile attacks on the Al Azraq base in Jordan. Amman reported that its air defenses intercepted and destroyed 18 of 20 Iranian missiles, with the remainder falling in open areas. U.S. Central Command attributed the tanker strikes to Iran's attempts to target a U.S. warship, emphasizing that no American personnel were harmed. The IRGC also issued warnings to oil tankers in Kuwaiti and Bahraini ports, urging crews to abandon ship due to potential targeting.

The hostilities briefly propelled oil prices to $99.46 earlier on Tuesday, reflecting heightened geopolitical risk in the region.
